Set in a restored carriage house in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Vinegar Hill, mere blocks from the Navy Yard waterfront, this farm-to-table treasure redefines “warm and cozy” for the borough’s arts-and-crafts set. The 40-seat dining room is bedecked whimsically with co-owner Sam Buffa’s found objects and thrift-store finds (think pipe-organ parts, driftwood, and 60s office lights); out back, a garden with a cherry tree is opened for communal dining in the warmer months. For as much press as the interior has gotten, though, the ultimate draw is co-owner and chef Jean Adamson’s mouthwatering riffs on rustic American fare, sourced from local suppliers and prepared in a wood-fired oven. The cast-iron chicken with sherry-vinegar jus is poised for cult status in this up-and-coming Brooklyn neighborhood, while the seasonal-fruit sourdough pancake makes for a perfect escapist brunch.
