Though the word hygge (Danish for “a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality”) seems to have only recently entered the English vernacular, this Williamsburg restaurant has been purveying it since 2015. At the front of house is a three-sided pale-wood bar serving hard-to-find beers and natural wines from unlikely regions; in the back, a Nordic-style dining area with white walls and cedar-slat panels. Chef Nick Curtola, formerly of Franny’s, has a keen taste for small plates of cured fish (amberjack with Fuji apple and shiso) and festive vegetable dishes (broccolini with mint, cashews, and Calabrian chili). Scandinavian cuisine is the top note of the menu, with Japanese, French, Italian, and English influences throughout. Whatever you do, don’t pass up the legendary house brown bread, served with a generous dollop of cultured butter.
