Tucked away on the ground level of the Frederick Hotel (the city’s oldest in continuous operation), Primo’s is a mindfully decorated cocktail bar that echoes not only the midcentury Italian Riviera, but also the New York social clubs of the Roaring Twenties. Snakelike green-velvet banquettes, floor-to-ceiling wood paneling, and a triangular-patterned terrazzo floor (all brought in by interior designer Camilla Deterre) welcome guests in search of late-night orecchiette pasta and killer martinis (here, the dirty, which is the house specialty, is double-vodka). Drinkswise, we also recommend the Catcher in the Rye (aquavit, date, cardamom, lemon) and one of the upper-downer coffee beverages, like the caffe crema (chicory-infused Armagnac, espresso, steamed milk).
