Launched in 2005 as an e-commerce site by husband and wife Da and Kris Kim, La Garçonne specializes in what it calls “the elegantly understated”: a scrupulously chosen mix of ready-to-wear, shoes, and accessories from established and emerging brands whose aesthetics skew minimalist and androgynous (after all, the store’s name loosely translates to “the tomboy”). In 2014, La Garçonne opened its first brick-and-mortar location in a landmarked loft building in Tribeca, complete with all-white walls, blond-wood accents, and Japanese lanterns. The chalky paints and navy-upholstered furniture of the interior, designed by architect Solveig Fernlund, were inspired by Kris Kim’s in-house clothing range, La Garçonne Moderne. On the racks, you’ll find investment items from Yohji Yamamoto, Sacai, and Simone Rocha, in addition to everyday staples from Hope, Black Crane, and APC. Don’t overlook the selection of home objects, either. They include teapots from Hasami Porcelain and bath towels from Morihata.
