Originally launched as an antiques outpost in 1994 by independent filmmaker Donna Lennard and her then-partner, Alberto Avalle, Il Buco quickly took shape as a refined-rustic Mediterranean restaurant after the two began inviting loyal clients to the space for midday pranzo. Today, under the direction of Barcelonan chef Roger Martinez, Il Buco offers lunch and dinner menus of simple, seasonal Spanish and Italian fare steered by the flavors of the local ecology. Mingle with a stylish set of locals in an upscale-farmhouse setting over such plates as handmade egg pasta with Hudson Valley rabbit sugo and Pecorino, and don’t forget to explore the boutique wines from the 200-year-old floor-to-ceiling cellar below, rumored to have inspired Edgar Allen Poe’s 1846 short story “The Cask of Amontillado.”
