Recently reopened in Cobble Hill after its sudden exit from Alphabet City in 2014, the cocktail bar Elsa, named in homage to the Roaring Twenties couturière Elsa Schiaparelli, oozes a relaxedness that other Art Deco-inspired spots in the city tend to lack. The interior, despite its early-20th-century references, has a certain Brooklyn slickness, featuring a steel-and-mirror backbar, brass-and-marble tables, and burgundy-leather booths from the nearby design firm Home Studios. (What’s more, a vintage sewing machine doubles as a craft-beer tap.) Though bar snacks are served, Elsa’s regulars–not a few of whom are Manhattan transplants themselves–come here for the signature elixirs with literary-minded names, like My Story in a Late Style of Fire (mescal, orange-blossom honey, pineapple, lemon, Dimmi liqueur, ginger, sesame, and hemp oil).
