Founded in 2006, Galería Hilario Galguera puts forth ideas that are as powerful as the art on display. The aim is to bestow artists with the chance to participate on the global stage, all while keeping in mind that Mexico is a creative space with ancient roots. This sense of history is deeply felt in the gallery, housed in an early-20th-century manor in San Rafael, one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods. Curated exhibitions have included Damien Hirst’s first show in Latin America as well as major projects with Daniel Buren and Jannis Kounellis and Mexican artists such as Mauricio Limón, Daniel Lezama, Bosco Sodi, and Benjamín Torres. Galería Hilario Galguera is best for a weekday visit, as the space is open only by appointment on Saturdays and closed on Sundays.
