Contramar, which translates to “against the sea,” is a Mexico City seafood institution led by chef and owner Gabriela Camara. Its airy space and ample outdoor seating make it an ideal choice for a casual lunch or early dinner al fresco. The legendary tuna tostadas, topped with crispy onions, are a must-try, as is the pescado a la talla (split grilled fish doused with red-chili and parsley sauces). For dessert, make sure to try the deliciously subtle fig tart or decadent meringue cake. The restaurant is always packed, so reservations are highly recommended. Late diners should keep in mind that the restaurant usually closes early, at 6:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 8:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
