Carla Fernández, a standard bearer for Mexico City fashion design, does just that, establishing partnerships with indigenous artisans whose skills lend her graphic designs a quality and relevance that will last a lifetime. A visit to Fernández’s shop at the Downtown Hotel is worth it for the retail design alone (the rails were designed by the prominent local conceptual artist Pedro Reyes), but, chances are, visitors won’t leave empty-handed.
