Opened in 1998 by three-time James Beard Award-winning chef Suzanne Goin and sommelier Carolyn Styne, Lucques has been a Melrose Avenue institution (particularly among the entertainment-industry set) since its celebrated inception. Market-focused California cuisine—like grilled fish with beet puree, and Niman Ranch steak frites—sets the unpretentious tone at this restaurant, which originally served as the carriage house of the Harold Lloyd Estate. The French-rustic interior of exposed brick and wood is rounded out by a fireplace and a gardenlike patio, ideal for savoring Goin’s weekly Sunday Supper, a three-course prix fixe meal sourced from local farmer’s markets.
